往上想原因

即上行思路是，我們要思考為什么?或者目的是什么?

例如：An advantage of going to school at an early age is that children can develop faster socially.

通過(guò)反問(wèn)Why ?

得出：This is because they can make friends and learn how to get on with other children of the same age and this is often impossible when they stay at home.

在寫(xiě)作初期，我們可以通過(guò)this is because 來(lái)提醒自己，當(dāng)我們逐漸熟練了idea expansion的方法，后期可以把提示詞this is because 省去。

如下：

An advantage of going to school at an early age is that children can develop faster socially.They can make friends and learn how to get on with other children of the same age and this is often impossible when they stay at home.

往下想結(jié)果

即下行思路是這么做有什么結(jié)果，或有什么影響?

例如：I strongly argue that students in school should wear uniforms, which helps to make all students feel equal and confident.

這樣做有什么好處呢?我們可以通過(guò)this means that...或者in this way 作為思路提示詞。

This means that a better learning environment can be created for students.

對(duì)比展開(kāi)

我們有兩種對(duì)比展開(kāi)，一是不同描述主體之間的對(duì)比，例如男女性別對(duì)比，老少年齡對(duì)比，工作與家庭對(duì)比，傳統(tǒng)教育與新式遠(yuǎn)程教育對(duì)比等等。

例如：

An email or a text message can reach someone who is far away in a few seconds, while it takes a letter a few days or even a month to reach its destination.

二是不同時(shí)間維度之間的對(duì)比。過(guò)去與現(xiàn)在對(duì)比，現(xiàn)在與可能的將來(lái)對(duì)比。

例如：

People in the past tended to relax themselves by doing outdoor sports，such as jogging and walking, while they nowadays prefer to watch television or browse the internet for fun.
