1.

things財(cái)產(chǎn)；（個(gè)人的）所有物，用具；成套物品

Let me help you clear away the tea things (= cups, plates, etc. that are used for having tea).我來幫你收拾茶具。

2.

the real thing真事；真品，非贗品

The fire alarm goes off accidentally so often that when it’s the real thing (= when it really does happen) nobody will take any notice.火災(zāi)報(bào)警器常常瞎響，到時(shí)候真的著火時(shí)發(fā)警報(bào)也沒有人會(huì)注意了。

a thing or two一些事情；些許知識(shí)，一星半點(diǎn)

She thinks she knows everything about raising children, but I could tell her a thing or two (= some information she does not know).她覺得自己對(duì)于養(yǎng)育孩子樣樣精通，不過我倒可以讓她見識(shí)一二。

a close/near thing幾乎發(fā)生的事
