Conversation 1

A : My wife and I didn’t used to spend this much money .

B : What’s changed?

A : My wife has been pregnant for 7 months.

B : I see. I guess diapers and baby food are expensive. Bringing up children is not easy .

A : My wife will be going back to work soon.

B : You should have more money then.

A : Yes . We will need milk powder and bassinet.

Conversation 2

A : I heard Rose is pregnant. I hope it’ll be a boy this time .

B : I hope so , too . Rose and her husband have been wanting a boy so much.

A : After three baby girls in a row , Rose is under a lot of pressure from her in-laws . They want a boy in the worst way now.

B : But baby girls are just as good and just as fun as baby boys.

A : I agree with you , but you know how old-fashioned the elders are .

Conversation 3

A : Hey , Rose , how are you feeling?

B : Much better today .

A : Oh, Look at the baby . It’s so beautiful. Is it a boy or a girl ?

B : It’s a girl .

A : Can I hold it for a moment?

B : Sure. She is a peaceful child.

A : Oh, how adorable! She’s got your eyes.

B : So they say .

A : When are you returning home?

B : Well. The doctor said I have to remain here for at least two more days because I’m rather weak after childbirth.

A : You can use some time off. You’ve been working too hard anyway.

Conversation 4

A : Hello.

B : Hello. May I speak to Mark , please?

A : Sure , just a minute. Mark , you’re wanted on the phone.

B : Hello, this is Mark speaking.

A : Hi! This is Jill. How come you didn’t come in today ?

B : Oh, we had a birthday party for David last night. As a matter of fact I woke up with a terrible hangover.

A : That’s too bad. You’ll have to be more careful nest time.

B : Anything new at the office?

A : No, nothing special . Oh, yes , you know Bill, The guy with the moustache. His wife had a baby girl last night and he passed out cigars to everyone today , He said his wife and daughter are doing fine. The baby is their first child.

B : That’s wonderful! We’ve got to celebrate!

A : Yes, we have to . Do you think you can make it tomorrow?

B : Sure. I ought to be ready for some more drinks by then. Thank you for calling.

A : You’re welcome. Bye.
